Terms of service
The rules of the road for using Slate. We've kept it short and readable. By using Slate you agree to these terms.
1. Who we are
"Slate", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the team operating Slate at tryslate.live. "You" means the person or entity using the product. "Service" means the Slate website, app, and APIs.
2. Your account
You need an account to use Slate. You're responsible for the activity on your account, so keep your sign-in credentials safe and let us know if you suspect they've been compromised. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
3. Plans, billing, and trials
- Slate offers a Starter plan (free, with a monthly minute allowance) and a Pro plan (paid, with a higher allowance and access to top-ups).
- Pro plans include a 2-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends. You can cancel during the trial at no cost.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
- Top-ups (additional minute packs) require an active Pro subscription and expire with your current billing cycle.
- Launch pricing is a discount on our list rate. We may change pricing for new sign-ups, but we'll honor your current rate as long as your subscription is active and uninterrupted.
- Payments are processed by Dodo Payments. Taxes are shown at checkout where applicable.
4. Refunds
Because every paid plan starts with a 2-day trial, most users can decide whether Slate works for them before any charge. We handle refunds case-by-case — if something is wrong, write to team@tryslate.live and we'll do the right thing.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Slate to:
- Break the law, infringe someone's rights, or harass anyone.
- Generate content that is illegal, sexual involving minors, or designed to cause real-world harm.
- Reverse engineer the Service, scrape it, or use it to build a competing voice tutor.
- Resell access, share a single account across many users, or otherwise abuse usage limits.
- Probe for security vulnerabilities without first contacting us.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, especially when there's a risk to other users or to our providers.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the topics, prompts, transcripts, and saved sessions you create with Slate ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to host and process Your Content so that we can run the Service for you (e.g. saving sessions, rendering shared slates).
If you choose to publish a session, you make that specific session publicly accessible at a shareable URL. You can unpublish it at any time.
7. AI output and accuracy
Slate generates explanations, diagrams, and code with the help of large language models. Output can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date — especially for fast-moving topics or anything involving math, law, medicine, or money. You're responsible for verifying anything important before acting on it. Don't treat Slate as professional advice.
8. Service availability
We work hard to keep Slate available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party outages, and usage limits from our providers can cause downtime. If a paid feature is materially unavailable, contact us — we'll make it right.
9. Changes to the Service
Slate is actively developed. We may add, change, or retire features. If we materially reduce a paid feature, we'll give reasonable notice and a path forward (e.g. a refund or comparable replacement).
10. Termination
You can stop using Slate and delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, abuse the Service, or expose us to legal risk.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $50, whichever is greater.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Slate is incorporated. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction. Nothing here strips you of rights you have under your local consumer protection laws.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the product or our legal requirements change. We'll bump the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, give notice in-app or via email. If you keep using Slate after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
14. Contact
For anything legal: team@tryslate.live. For general questions, the contact page is faster.
