Privacy policy
Plain-English summary of what Slate collects, why, and what we do with it. The full text follows. If anything is unclear, email us — we'd rather rewrite a line than have you guess.
The short version
- We collect the minimum we need to run the product: your email, your sessions, your billing status.
- Your voice is streamed to our AI providers in real time so they can transcribe and respond. We do not store recordings.
- We do not sell your data. We do not train models on your private sessions.
- You can delete your account and your sessions at any time from your account page.
1. What we collect
Account information
When you sign in, we store your email address and a unique account identifier issued by our authentication provider. We use this to identify you across sessions and bill you for any paid plan.
Session data
While a voice session is active, we capture the live transcript of what you and Slate say, plus the canvas blocks Slate generates (diagrams, code, images, notes). When the session ends, the transcript and canvas are saved to your account so you can revisit or share them.
We do not store raw audio recordings. Audio is streamed to our voice providers in real time, transcribed, and then discarded.
Usage and billing
We log connected voice minutes for billing, and we keep a record of your subscription and top-up purchases. Payments are processed by Dodo Payments — we do not see or store your card details.
Analytics
We use a product-analytics service to understand how Slate is used in aggregate (which pages people visit, where flows break, whether a feature gets adopted). We do not sell this data and we don't build advertising profiles. If you'd rather opt out, email us and we'll honor it.
2. Where your data goes
To run Slate, we share specific data with a small number of trusted infrastructure providers, limited to what each one needs to do its job:
- Authentication, database, and file storage — to host your account and saved sessions.
- Real-time voice infrastructure — to carry the live audio of a session.
- Speech-to-text and text-to-speech — to transcribe what you say and generate Slate's voice.
- Large-language-model providers — to generate Slate's responses and canvas content.
- Image generation — to render images Slate produces during a session.
- Payments processor — for checkout, subscription billing, and invoicing.
- Product analytics — to understand aggregate usage of the product.
- Transactional email — to deliver messages such as contact-form replies.
We do not authorize any provider to train models on your private session content. If you need our current list of sub-processors for a compliance review, email team@tryslate.live and we'll share it.
3. How long we keep it
- Account data is kept for as long as your account is active.
- Sessions are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Live audio is discarded as soon as it's transcribed (typically within seconds).
- Billing records are kept as required by law (typically up to 7 years).
- Analytics events are aggregated and retained per our analytics provider's defaults.
4. Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Export or delete individual sessions from your history.
- Delete your account and all associated session data.
- Cancel your subscription from the billing portal.
- Email us to request a copy of any data we hold about you.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws — including the right to access, correct, or restrict processing of your data. To exercise any of these, email team@tryslate.live.
5. Security
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted to a small number of team members. We follow standard practices for managing secrets and we don't store payment card data on our infrastructure. No system is perfect — if you spot a vulnerability, please email us and we'll respond quickly.
6. Children
Slate is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, email us and we'll remove it.
7. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the product itself, not just buried here.
8. Contact
Questions, complaints, or requests: team@tryslate.live, or use the contact page.
